GENERAL
The Fireback Grouper (Lutjanus malabaricus) is a lesser-known but strikingly beautiful species found in deeper waters around reefs. Its dark reddish-brown body is accentuated by bright yellow edges on its fins. Fireback groupers, typically growing to about 3 feet in length and weighing up to 30 pounds, are targeted using deep-water fishing techniques. They are prized for their rich, flavorful meat, though they are less commonly caught compared to other grouper species.
